The Serengeti National Park is the best safari in Tanzania

The Serengeti National Park is situated in Tanzania. This park is one of the best wildlife sanctuary in Africa and also in the world. Serengeti comes from a Masai word "siringit" which means a place where the land runs forever. This refers to the huge flat grassland which covers a third of the Serengeti park. It is Tanzania's largest park and the most famous park. In all African countries, this park has highest concentration of wildlife. There are over 2 million wildebeest, about 250,000 gazelles and 500,000 zebras. This park also holds a huge number of lions. The annual wildebeest migration has made the Serengeti National Park famous and tourist from all corners of the world come to witness this spectacular show given by mother nature.
Various safari lodges have been built near the park to accommodate the large numbers of tourist. This has also created development and job opportunity to the local people. For instance, there is a beautiful Lodge built on a hill where visitors can have an ideal game viewing across the the serengeti plains. There is another Lodge located in the South West of the park in the Nyarboro hills and, it's the only tourist development in the serengeti park. Another Lodge is built near the Lobo river valley from where visitors can have excellent game viewing especially during the dry season. There is another Lodge situated on a gentle sloping hill near Grumeti river. This lodge is built in a special way that reflects the grand style of an English manor home and offers seven luxurious cottages.

There are also various camps available in serengeti since not all the visitor prefer lodges and the fact that camps are cheaper, many tourist go for them. Some of these camps are mobile tented camp which is moved within the park depending with the wildebeest migration. This camp consists of eight tents with two beds each and a comfortable bathroom. There is a Camp built in a private 10,000 hectare land on the Kuka hills where you can have a good view of the rolling grass land, forested riverbanks and the marshes across the serengeti plains. Elephants are seen in large numbers here than any other area in the serengeti park.

Most camps are mobile and are relocated depending with the movement of the wildebeest. The flight of a hot air balloon is the climax of the serengeti safari offering an excellent game viewing and photographing as you fly over the wildebeest. A safari to the serengeti will also give you a chance to see the big five(lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino, elephant). Watching the big cats hunt is indeed a great experience.
