Christ the Redeemer rests on the tip of Corcovado Mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park ignoring the Brazilian Capital, Rio de Janeiro. The statue of Jesus Christ is located at the peak of 700m of the Corcovado Mountain. This statuette of Jesus Christ, embracing arms as if it is embracing entire humankind is the most popular landmark in Brazil. A symbol of Christianity, the statue has become an icon for Rio and Brazil. The 38m long statue, the tallest in the world is made of metal, permanent material and soapstone weighs 635 tones. Designed by Brazilian builder Heitor de Silva Costa and built by French sculptor Paul Landowski, it is one of the world's well known structures. It took five years to create and inaugurated on October 12, 1931. It is now renowned as the new Seven Wonders of the World. In the era of 1850's, a catholic pastor, Pedro Maria Boss, adviced to create a statue of Jesus Christ on the peak of the Corcovado Mountain. The financial assistance was asked from the Princess of Isabel to build a great statue of Lord Jesus Christ which was considered as a religious symbol and is freshly recognized as a part of recent seven wonders of the world. Initially this notion was ignored and nobody thought to build this huge sacred structure, but after ward in 1921, the figurine was ultimately built by the Catholic Circle of Rio, when the actual need and proposal for a huge milestone and a religious memorial was sincerely considered. Then was the difficulty of funds, as to who will fund for this huge traditional and sacred monument and to resolve this difficulty as well to gain a great publicity a group of citizens organized an event for around seven days through which a huge amount of donation was collected mostly from the Brazilian Catholics. The people were also asked to sign if they were in support of creating the large statue of Jesus. Along with money and signatures, there were implications flooding in for the design of the statue of Jesus Christ, some recommended that there should be a cross of Christ along with Jesus Christ's statuette, others had a notion to make an statue of Jesus holing the globe in his safe hands, all the suggestions were deeply worked on, but lastly a statue of Jesus Christ with open arms was opted. With all the hardships the statue was finally built on the tip of 700m high Corcovado Mountain and recently is saluted as one of the seven wonders of the world. You can easily get to observe this astonishing wonder of the world by simply flying to the Brazilian capital, Rio de Janeiro and book a hotel well before time as Rio is a busy city. Shared taxis are the best modes of travel to Corcovado Mountain. The remaining of the mount up to the statue can be done by elevators, escalators or by climbing up 222 steps!
