If Las Vegas is the gambling city of America, then Monte Carlo is the Casino haven of Monaco. Monte Carlo is the home of the famous Le Grand Casino, which is a huge gambling complex that features an opera and ballet house as well as the annual European Poker Tour championship. There are several sporting events held in Monte Carlo including one of the longest running car rallies the Monte Carlo Rally, Circuit de Monaco, World Backgammon Championships and several world boxing championships.
Beach lovers all over the world go to Larvotto, which is Monte Carlo's public man-made beach and features amazing marine life, various restaurants and bars as well as fun water sports.
The "norm" when relaxing on a beach in Monaco is topless sunbathing. The most famous for this is the Monte Carlo Beach Club, which has been an integral part of the social life of this town for decades. There is an expensive entrance fee, but the beach has great facilities, cafes and bars. The only public beach in Monaco is Larvotto. This is a man-made beach and comprises three concrete jetties, protected by large boulders and gravel.
This regal city was featured in several Hollywood films including the classic movie "Monte Carlo", the James Bond series "Never Say Never Again", "Golden Eye" and "To Catch A Thief" and recently "Iron Man 2" where they featured the Monaco World Prix 1.
