Masai Mara is a world reknown natural reserve spanning 1510 square kilometers. The reserve is shelter to a wide variety of wild animals. Famed for its black maned Lions, the Mara has numerous prides. great herds of Elephant roam the endless savannas dotted with acacias. The Mara has a very important live sustaining river; The Mara River. It is here where millions of ungulates; Wildebeests, Zebras and gazelles make the life threatening crossing every year. The crossing leaves in its wake thousands of dead animals unable to jump the riverbank heights, drowing and hunting by the crocodiles prowing within the murky waters. This crossing take place approximately during the months of july to October thogh this has been greatly affected by the varying weather patterns often caused by the changing world climate. In the year 2009 during the mont of November, Numerous wildebeest were seen crossing back to Kenya.
The month of January has seen the El-nino phenomenon cause havoc in Kenya. The Mara River has seen rising levels of water not seen in the previvous years. This is a welcome phenomeno since the Mara has its pastures replenished.
